1, Remove the old tube, start pulling it off, at the top of the
transom, and work towards the bow, take pictures to remind you
how it is fitted.
2, If it is stuck well, heat the material with a hair dryer
to damage the glue, and this will ease the removal.
3, Discard the old tube. Or cut it up to make patterns.
4, Clean off all the residue, left from the old tube, being
careful not to damage the gell coat of the glass fibre, as this
will make bonding of the new tube difficult. If you do damage
it, then it must be recoated with resin.
5, Clean all the surfaces where the glue is to be applied to
the tube flange with Acetone Solvent, together with the grp
flange on the hull. Gluing is achieved by painting both
surfaces, waiting 2 or 3 min. then coating one surface again,
wait a minute. Press together. All glued parts, should be
checked every 5 min to ensure correct adhesion.
6, Inflate the new tube to 0,7 psi, allow it to stretch for
at least 36hrs put it in place on the boat. If there are any
wrinkles in the tube, this is due to wrinkles in the inner tube.
These must be pulled out. RE INFLATE THE TUBE AND LEAVE FOR 12
HOURS. Place the tube on the hull fully inflated, remember the
tube stretches between 0.5 and 1.5%. Then have the strap ready
(supplied) to pull the tubes to the transom.
Starting from the bow work towards the stern, one side then
the other, gluing about 70 cm at a time, if necessary put
a
second strap around the middle of the boat to pull the tubes
further into place.
Put glue on the cloth flange, and the hull, leave 5 min,
apply more glue to the hull, wait a minute then pull the cloth
into place, and stick in place. Glue the entire cloth flange,
port and stbd., under the hull.
Gluing may be different, depending on glue type, follow
manufacturers instructions.
There are two parts supplied (triangles, see below) with a
diagram, to replace the two transom support cloths you initially
removed. these are now glued to the tube, having determined
their position. temporarily release the strap. Glue the
triangles to the tube
7, Paint a heavy coat of wet glue to the curved sections of
the transom where the tubes meet it, use the strap pull the tube
to the transom until they are in intimate contact with it.
Leave strap in place for at least 24 hours, until glue is
fully cured.
Glue the tube inside tapes to the hull
8, In the meantime, start gluing the tapes, which are fitted
between the tube and the transom, same as tapes on the old one
tube, cleaning again with Acetone as you go.
9, Leave for 24 hours. Again may vary with different glue
application thickness.
10, The black pvc strips as
supplied, are for covering all
underside surfaces and the rear of the transom, to render the
boat watertight. after fitting these. leave
the boat for a further 48 hours before launching.
NB The glue is usable at 15 -25C and a relative humidity
below 60%. Low Humidity conditions are essential for good
adhesion, if in doubt, spread a little glue on some scrap
material, if the humidity is too high a film of mist will appear
on the surface of the glue, if this is the case, DO NOT PROCEED,
until the humidity drops below 60%.
