Coating
is just the start of the story, having produced the material, it
has to be joined together to create
the
desired product. Hypalon has good
abrasion resistance, but is not so good at air holding.
To solve the
problem, the base fabric has:
Hypalon coating outside, for good resistance to wear
Neoprene
coating inside for good air holding
Expensive, and is let
down in the end by the GLUE holding the boat together. All the
boats we re-tube
have
suffered from, either Failure
of the glue or porosity of the material, or
both, Gemini Boats
suffer from neither. Gemini’s the complete
solution..
A
GEMINI Boat, with Inner Tubes, is technically right
The
inner tubes remain 99.9% air tight throughout their 15 or so
year Life.
Only
metals are 100% airtight
P.V.C FOILS are quick
to glue (when done correctly), it is a chemical bond, not a
contact
adhesive which is used to construct Hypalon products. The life of a
chemical bonded
tube,is well in excess of 20 yrs.
The Outer
Tubes are sewn together, this provides a very neat and clean
appearance,
the
seams can be covered with tapes if required for addition
Protection.
Advantages, Known Strength, Speed of Construction, Long Life. Lower
Cost.
A P.V.C. or PU coated
fabric, together with the Inner Tube foil, is about the same cost.
The boat is sewn
together, Sewing a boat is akin to riveting a ship, and the chemical. Bonding of the
glue is comparable to metal welding. All large ships are
built this way.

PU material is made by
DUNLOP, and is used for their commercial liferafts.
Air
Holding is second to none, even after
10 to 15
years.
After
hundreds of hours of use, the boats still look good, and are
very easy to clean.
They weigh
less than other boats, but have similar, if not greater
consistent strength, which remains
constant,
throughout its service. At 10 years old it is as strong as the
day it was first
built.
Gemini Inner Tubes
are in use in the Far East, in Military,
Police, Navy and Custom Boat.
The PVC
outer tube and inner tubes are of special formulations for use
in seawater.
